Clairemont Mesa Community Planning Group Meeting Recap (April 21, 2026)
This is a recap of the Clairemont Town Council meeting held on April 6, 2026. Here are the key updates that may impact Clairemont residents.
Two New Board Members
The Clairemont Town Council added two new directors at large to its board.
Joe Furfaro is a software engineer who has owned a home in Clairemont since 2011. He’s a Lafayette Elementary School parent who is active in the community and in youth sports. His role on the council will include helping with technology, including revitalizing the CTC Instagram account.
The second addition, Arnaud L’Official, who is originally from France, has been a resident of Clairemont since 2022. He has two young children and is motivated by community service.
Treasurer’s Report
The Clairemont Town Council reported that it maintains healthy balances in its accounts, including $33,000 in the CTC account and $50,000 in the CTC Foundation account.
The CTC has committed a portion of the funds to banners and related expenses.
San Diego Police Department Northern Division Report
Officer Anderson Brown presented crime and incident statistics in the Clairemont area during the past month, which include:
- Nine vehicle accidents
- Four hit-and-runs
- Zero DUIs, injuries, or fatalities
A July 14 multi-agency traffic enforcement operation resulted in:
- 361 hazardous citations
- 36 warnings
- One misdemeanor citation
- Two vehicles impounded
San Diego Parks & Recreation Clairemont Pool Closure Update
City pool representatives Nicole McNeil and Justin Necaise provided a detailed update on the Clairemont Pool closure. The pool is projected to open in another six to eight months after its October 2024 closure. Read Explore Clairemont’s in-depth article on the project.

McNeil stated funding for the pool project is secure and that rumors of the city running out of money to complete it are false.
Completed Work:
- Full deck demolition
- Replacement of deteriorated terracotta piping
- New sewer connections
- New diving platforms
- Electrical and lighting upgrades
- ADA lift installation
- New boiler
- Fence posts installed
Remaining Work:
- Fence panel installation (delayed due to citywide contract capacity issues)
- Final plastering (90% complete; requires immediate filling for curing)
Independent Budget Analyst – FY27 Budget Review
The IBA team presented an overview of the FY27 budget. The city’s infrastructure funding gap remains over $1 billion. Public questions addressed topics including restroom funding, developer impact fees, equity metrics, and Pure Water Project impacts.

Clairemont Libraries Update
The Clairemont Library remains temporarily closed for repairs after a car crashed into the building. The North Clairemont Library continues programs, including Saturday events and youth chess tournaments.
CTC Foundation Update
The Foundation reported that it has submitted four grant applications for banner programs. These banners are displayed across various streets of Clairemont. The theme for this year’s banner program is “Explore Clairemont” (which we think has a nice ring to it).
The CTC Foundation announced several events over the next few months, which include:
- Clairemont Family Day celebration, complete with vendors and a beer garden on September 12
- Clairemont birthday concert at the Clairemont Town Square on October 16
- Holiday party with an upcoming Adopt-a-Family announcement. The party will take place on December 3.
Community Updates from Michael Dwyer
Michael announced several upcoming issues that involve Clairemont and greater San Diego residents:
- The city unveiled its Affordable Housing Development Master Plan, which could involve converting the Clairemont Library and Rose Canyon Operations Yard into affordable housing
- There is a proposed water rate increase forthcoming where low-volume users may see increases up to 30%; a hearing on the topic will be held October 6
- SDG&E customers will receive a $50 climate credit in August and September
Elected Representative Reports
Mayor Todd Gloria’s office update provided by Randy Reyes:
- Olive Grove Park improvements continue
- The city is preparing for fall storm season
- Reminders to follow safety guidelines after climbing and diving accidents occurred at Sunset Cliffs in Point Loma
State Senator Catherine Blakespear update provided by Aurora Livingston included
providing appropriations deadlines, discussion of a human trafficking panel, and e-bike safety initiatives.
The Clairemont Town Council meets at 6 pm on the first Thursday of each month at the Cathy Hopper Friendship Center, located at 4425 Bannock Avenue in Clairemont. The CTC is an all-volunteer group focused on improving the community through events and advocacy.
