Live Improv: The Free Spirits

The Free Spirits is an improvisational comedy ensemble comprised of senior citizens who are members of Theater World at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of UCSD. They range from 59-90 years of age and are the only regularly performing group of senior improvisors in San Diego. In 2024, they were the 3-time winners of the Sunday Night Smack-Down competition at the Mockingbird Improv Theater in Liberty Station, beating out three different groups of (much younger) competitors and earning themselves a 5-week residency. We are thrilled to welcome The Free Spirits back to Vinya for some “short form” improv of different scenes and formats, where everything they do will be uniquely developed on the spot, based on suggestions from the audience. The Free Spirits aim to prove that imagination never grows old and that having fun is great for the body and soul!
