CLAIREMONT

About Clairemont

Clairemont is one of San Diego's largest neighborhoods by both population and land size. It sits in a perfect location, with ocean views to the west, Tecolote Canyon running through it, and flanked by every major freeway in central San Diego.

The entirety of Clairemont is made up of Bay Ho, Bay Park, North Clairemont, Clairemont Mesa East, and Clairemont Mesa West.

History

Clairemont was the nation’s first master-planned single-family community. Claire Tavares, wife of developer Carlos Tavares, was the inspiration behind its name. She thought Clairemont’s location, up the hill from Pacific Beach where the sun shone bright, was ideal for this new community.

Developers broke ground in the early 1950s, and construction spread in Clairemont through the 1960s. Its homes attracted young, middle-class families, which still stands true today.

Today

Clairemont has regained some the popularity of its early days, becoming a highly-sought after neighborhood to live because of its close proximity to everything, as well as its beautiful canyons.

With a popular golf course and miles of trails, it beckons outdoor enthusiasts. Families are drawn to some of the highly-rated schools. Both singles and families appreciate Clairemont's many shopping and dining options.

Notable Events

Clairemont hosts an annual Family Day event September. It includes music, kids activities, local vendors, and more. 2025 is the only year Family Day will not occur. In its place, Clairemont will celebrate its 75th birthday in an event at the Clairemont Town Square.
