LINDA VISTA
About Linda Vista
The translation of Linda Vista is "pretty view" in Spanish. Perched overlooking Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean, it's no surprise how it earned its name.
Linda Vista is a culturally diverse neighborhood with a strong mix of Hispanics, Caucasian, and Asians. There is also a strong presence of military families with the Liberty Military Housing community in the heart of Linda Vista.
History
In 1941, 3,000 military homes were built in 159 days in what was the largest defense housing project in the nation. In the 1970s, Linda Vista saw an influx of Vietnamese immigrants and refugees post-Vietnam War.
Today
The Vietnamese influence remains strong in today's Linda Vista, with the area being a hotspot for authentic Vietnamese restaurants. The University of San Diego stands as the beacon of the neighborhood of mostly single-family homes. Its anchor down the hill, Home Brew Mart, arguably kicked off the craft beer revolution and remains at the same location today.
Notable Events
Every April, Linda Vista celebrates with its Multicultural Fair & Parade on Linda Vista Road. Food vendors, live performances, and art and essay contest, and a parade are all paRt of the event.
