Hey Neighbors!
Someone’s celebrating their 75th birthday this weekend, and in case you missed the invite, you’ll find it in the newsletter’s featured events.
By the way, I’ll be in one of the vendor booths, so be sure to stop by and say hello. I’d love to meet you in person!

LOCAL SPOTLIGHT
Clairemont resident Monica Bockman is practicing the ultimate in sustainability by creating functional art from about-to-be-discarded trees.
Her new business, Tree to Table San Diego, handcrafts one-of-a-kind charcuterie boards from trees grown right here in San Diego. The trees that once lined a local street are upcycled to become beautiful displays for gatherings you host at home.
From avocado trees to eucalyptus trees—and so many more—these unique charcuterie boards highlight the natural beauty of the wood from which they came.
Read more about Monica and how she started this new venture.
BONUS: Tree to Table is offering a special discount to Fast Times readers. Mention code EXPLORE CLAIREMONT to receive a 20% discount through November and a 10% discount in December. Tree to Table will have a booth at the upcoming Clairemont birthday event on Saturday, October 18.

Affordable Housing Opens in Clairemont
Originally dubbed the Mt. Etna Project, two affordable housing apartment buildings officially opened on October 14. The Modica and Taormina join the earlier opened senior residence building at the intersection of Genesee Avenue and Balboa Avenue.
One more building is slated to open early next year, creating an additional 404 homes in the area.
Ketch Caught Gold
Our very own Ketch Brewing took home a gold medal at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival awards. Its Brig Blonde snagged the top spot for golden or blonde ales.
Meet Your New Tax Collector
San Diego is set to appoint a new Treasurer-Tax Collector, as the longtime incumbent, Dan McAllister, has recently retired. While meeting a county tax collector might not be on your bingo card of excitement, it’s an opportunity to get civically engaged, particularly with the office that handles our money.
Four finalists will present their cases for the Treasurer-Tax Collector position, and members of the community will have the opportunity to meet with the finalists for further discussion.
The meeting will take place October 30 in Kearny Mesa.
