Almost Famous

🍝 San Diego Restaurant Week: Winter Edition
We’re in the full swing of winter (don’t let the 75-degree weather fool you), and with it comes the return of Restaurant Week. It’s a great time to explore something new or revisit an old favorite. Here are the participating local restaurants:
- The Godfather | Kearny Mesa: Offering a $35 3-course lunch menu and a $50 3-course dinner menu
- La Gran Terraza | Linda Vista: Offering a 2-course lunch menu and a soft drink for $30 and $45 3-course dinner
🫡 A Life Well Lived: 96-Year-Old Serra Mesan Remembered
Serra Mesa resident and Korean War veteran Stan Levin passed away at 96 years old earlier this month. His life was a story well-written, having worked as an acrobat in burlesque shows and later as a teacher and a Realtor. At 21, Stan enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War and was left with the invisible battle scars of PTSD.
Later in life, Stan would become a fierce advocate for homeless veterans, working with an organization called Veterans for Peace. Stan is survived by his wife and two daughters.
👨✈️ O Captain! My Captain!
Clairemont High School selects its new mascot. This is not yet officially confirmed, but word has it that the naming committee selected Captains. The other choices were: Seahawks, Aviators, and Trailblazers. Which was your favorite?

The Un-Sinkable Happens on Morena Boulevard
A water main break created a large sinkhole on Morena Boulevard late last week, prompting the city to reroute traffic. The sinkhole, near the intersection of Napa Street, caused lane closures that reopened after repairs late Tuesday.

This older fella is a bit shy at first. He does best with low-pressure interactions (don’t we all?). Tobias is almost 15 years old, so providing him with a loving home for his remaining years would be the best gift you could give him. He’s ready to be picked up at the San Diego Humane Society!
