Playing games is one of the best ways to socialize. It’s something both young and old can enjoy. Plus, game playing boosts creativity, teaches teamwork, improves memory, and stimulates the brain. With all those benefits, there’s no reason you shouldn’t play games.

The Local Scroll
There’s a new section on the Explore Clairemont website that showcases local images. You’re invited to submit snapshots you take around town, whether it’s a beautiful sunset, your kid scoring the game-winning point, or showcasing your business (no ads, though). The Local Scroll is meant to capture candid moments around Bay Ho, Bay Park, Clairemont, Kearny Mesa, Linda Vista, and Serra Mesa. Images will be featured on the home page and throughout the website.

Trash Fee Relief
Feeling the squeeze from the new trash fees? At this week’s Serra Mesa Community Council meeting, Community Development Specialist Rosa Elena Enriquez unveiled a fee-assistance program now offered by the City of San Diego.
The program offers a 50% discount on the standard fee if your household income falls at or below 60% of the state’s median income or if someone in your household is currently enrolled in LIHEAP, CalWORKs, CalFresh, or Medi-Cal. You can check income requirements here. You can also call 619-946-4419 with any questions. This program is funded by the city’s general funds and will remain available until funds run out.
Clairemont Community Plan is Official
The controversial Clairemont Community Plan Update was officially signed off on by Mayor Todd Gloria last week, giving the green light to build 14,000 additional residential units (in addition to thousands unrealized in the original plan). The new plan also lifts the 30-foot height limit adopted in 1972 (Clairemont’s few taller buildings were constructed prior to that date). Certain areas of Clairemont, Bay Ho, and Bay Park will now allow buildings up to 65 feet tall.
Kearny Mesa’s plan update was completed in 2020. No word yet on changes to the Serra Mesa or Linda Vista community plans, which are decades old, but the city has indicated it intends to update all of San Diego’s 52 communities.

Sun Nails nail salon at 8078 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard is under new ownership.
Da Gu Rice Noodles officially opened this month on 4690 Convoy Street in the Convoy Pointe Shopping Center. They serve Yunnan-style noodles in broth, with your choice of toppings. They were offering a 12% grand opening discount, but did not indicate how long this would be available.
This one’s a bit of a mystery, but there is a new business certificate for Omakase Inu, which is listed as a special food services provider in the Kearny Mesa area. The certificate is valid as of 12-30-2025, but the Google Maps address shows an apartment complex. However, there is an Instagram account with the same name that says “coming soon.” I’m unsure if they are related, but it seems to point in that direction.
