Tight budgets and rising prices are turning many people into deal-seekers these days. Fortunately, when it comes to happy hour deals around the neighborhood, Clairemont, Bay Ho, Bay Park, Kearny Mesa, and Serra Mesa deliver in spades.

Community Plan Updates

The Clairemont Community Planning Group (CCPG) Special Project Review Subcommittee (PRS) met last night at the Cathy Hopper Friendship Center to discuss the Clairemont Community Plan Update unveiled by the city earlier this month.

The PRS focused on providing feedback strategies to the city regarding some of its proposals, noting that more density is inevitable. However, the PRS hopes to shape how that density is applied throughout Clairemont with its recommendations to the city planners.

The PRS also noted some discrepancies within the proposal, and it will seek further clarification from city officials.

Both committee members and community members emphasized the importance of protecting canyon habitat in Clairemont.

At 9 am today, the city will hold a Clairemont Community Plan Update Workshop. This meeting is open to the public to attend in person at 7650 Mission Valley Road, via webinar at https://sandiego.zoomgov.com/j/1609440367, or by telephone at 833-568-8864 (webinar ID 160 944 0367). Additional CCPG and/or PRS meetings are scheduled for September 10, September 16, October 8, and October 14. Meetings will be at the Cathy Hopper Center, 4425 Bannock Ave, from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Closing

• La Pastaia Italian restaurant, located on Clairemont Drive, closed last Saturday after a two-year run. Farmer’s Table restaurant occupied the space prior.
• After a 20-year run, Ajisen Ramen in the Convoy District of Kearny Mesa also closed this month. Ajisen Ramen is a noodle chain founded in Japan.

Opening

• TP Tea at the Clairemont Town Square had its soft opening launch on August 24, with its grand opening expected soon. Expect giveaways and specials. TP Tea is a Taiwanese tea chain that originated boba milk tea.

Unwanted Artwork

Residents of Bay Ho are speaking out about the graffiti appearing across the neighborhood, particularly near Costco on Morena Boulevard. One resident has an open Get It Done Report from 2024, but he has filed more since then. The involvement of multiple agencies, including the city, MTS, NCTD, and SANDAG, has created a significant amount of bureaucracy that impedes the cleanup process.
