A tiny plot of land in Linda Vista Park was transformed into a community garden in 2024. It now produces thousands of pounds of fresh produce for an underserved community, while educating youth, adults, and seniors on how to grow their own food and connect with nature.

Tecolote Canyon Golf Course Closing Down
On January 30, the City of San Diego informed its longtime lessee, American Golf Corporation, that it would not renew its lease at Tecolote Canyon Golf Course. American Golf immediately shut down the golf course, but the driving range remains open through February 15.
Employees were notified up to a week later of the impending closure. I received the following response from the City when I inquired about the course’s future plans.

Jersey Mike’s is Taking Over the Neighborhood
Jersey Mike’s will open by the end of this year in Linda Vista at The Presidio Plaza, located at 5401 Linda Vista Road. Jersey Mike’s appears to be expanding in a trajectory similar to Starbucks back in the day! There are currently two locations in Clairemont, with a third opening later this year, and two locations in Kearny Mesa. This location will be the sixth in the area.
War Games
Kearny Mesa-based Firestorm Labs, an aviation and aerospace manufacturer, has been selected as one of 25 companies to compete in the Department of War’s Drone Dominance Program. The DOW intends to purchase and field hundreds of thousands of drones by 2027. Firestorm drones have already flown in Ukraine.
Blinded by Science
Students at Taft Middle School in Serra Mesa hosted a Rocket Invitational, playing teachers to elementary school students and helping them build and launch rockets. The goal is to get young kids excited about STEM—science, technology, engineering, and math.
