The Linda Vista Planning Group met on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the Kearny Mesa Recreation Center to discuss agenda items related to Linda Vista and its adjacent neighborhoods.
Engineering and Capital Improvement Project Updates
Engineering and Capital Projects presented two active projects in Linda Vista: Osler Street Traffic Calming and Linda Vista Library Patio Improvements. The Osler Street project will include a new pedestrian crosswalk, a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon, a streetlight, and curb and sidewalk improvements, including red curb stripping between 20 and 50 ft from the pedestrian crossing. The project is being coordinated with other street improvements along Osler. Planned construction cost is $320,000; however, similar recent projects have cost less. The City of San Diego will seek a bidder in the fall, with construction running from April to October 2027.
The Library Patio Improvement design is currently 60% done. The project will add approximately 700 sq/ft by expanding the perimeter wall. The project will keep the existing Magnolia tree and add 2-3 shade structures, new permanent seating, craft/meeting spaces, and drainage improvements to prevent ponding. There is no estimated cost, but construction for this expansion is at least partially funded by $500k in earmarks from Congresswoman Sara Jacobs. Construction is expected to last from 2028-2029.
Mission Bay & Affordable Housing Topics
In addition to these discussion items, LVPG committee members gave updates on their work and recent City developments. These include Mission Bay bathrooms being closed and now reopened, in no small part because the revenue Mission Bay Park generates is primarily sent to the City’s General Fund or used to support other parks.
De Anza Natural, a plan to rewild Mission Bay wetlands while expanding recreation opportunities, has also received California Coastal Commission approval and may begin seeking funding.
The Skateworld Ad Hoc Committee is in active discussions with city staff to encourage public engagement before any future project begins on the site, particularly due to renewed interest following release of the Affordable Home Development Master Plan. Landscape Maintenance Assessment District (MAD) and the Affordable Housing Task Force will hold regular meetings on September 21st at the Linda Vista Library and on September 15th at the University of San Diego Copley Library, respectively.
September 2026 Meeting Schedule & Topics
LVPG will meet again on September 28th at 6 pm in the Kearny Mesa Recreation Center. Expected presentations include an update on Hines Riverwalk development progress, the Bayside 22nd Annual Resident Leadership Academy on community enhancements, the University of San Diego’s Athletics Program, and, hopefully, the San Diego Water Department to update on the Morena Pipeline.
