Hey Neighbor!
After another long election cycle, we have our final District 2 (Richard Bailey and Nicole Crosby) and District 6 (Kent Lee and Mark Powell) candidates.
I’m still on vacation in Europe, but keeping an eye on the local news, like a Tesla crashing into a home in Clairemont. That’s at least the second car-into-home crash this year. Be safe out there, people!
Let’s dig into this week’s news.

Last week’s article on coyotes set off a virtual firestorm on Nextdoor. This week’s article might be divisive as well, focusing on another urban predator once rare in our neighborhoods—the American Crow.
Once only seen sparingly, crows are seemingly everywhere, from our lawns to our power lines. These highly intelligent creatures have learned to thrive in our urban and suburban environment, mostly because of human behavior.
Read the article for more about these wondrous critters.

In-N-Out on the Horizon in Clairemont?
If all permitting gets approved, Clairemont could see an In-N-Out Burger at the former Union Bank space at 4225 Genesee Ave. This could be a tight squeeze with a drive-thru and already growing traffic. I’ll share updates as I find them. Thanks to one of our Fast Times subscribers for scoping this out.
More Density in Clairemont as Ink Barely Dries on Clairemont Community Plan Update
There are several new residential apartment and condominium projects in the permitting process in Clairemont, with some citing the new Clairemont Community Plan.
These projects include:
- Replacing the cottages at 2059 Morena Boulevard with a new multifamily apartment complex.
- Tearing down the commercial buildings at 3660 Clairemont Drive to build a high-density apartment complex with a minimum of 200 units.
- Potentially adding a condominium complex at the industrial park at 4901 Morena Boulevard.
- Infilling the canyon below Clairemont High School to create 11 homes.

Tell Us Something We Didn’t Know
A newly released study by San Diego Coastkeeper shows high pollution in Mission Bay, particularly during storm events. Two local creeks, Rose Canyon and Tecolote, which drain into the bay, have chronically contaminated water regardless of storm events. In fact, the water at both creeks is considered unsafe for recreation more than half the time.
Free Adoptions
On June 6, the San Diego Humane Society will waive adoption fees for any pet. That means you can make Holly, our featured pet, yours for free this week. If Holly isn’t your jam, adopt a cat, turtle, hamster, or any other critter your heart desires.

This 4 BR, 4BA, 2,249 sq ft cul-de-sac home located at 4311 Cindy Street in Clairemont sits on .43 acres and offers resort living right in your own backyard. A saltwater pool surrounded by canyons complements a large home built from the ground up. The main house and the pool area feature full kitchens with thoughtfully appointed appliances. High ceilings and wide sliding doors create a feeling of openness.

Meet Holly
This gorgeous American Staffordshire Terrier mix, Holly, has been looking for a new home for nearly half of her life. She’s just under six years old and weighs in at 49.25 pounds. Since she’s house and crate-trained, she’s pretty much plug-and-play for your home. And she’s smart, too (as a Staffy owner, I can attest to how smart and lovable these pups are). Find out more about Holly through the San Diego Humane Society. Or reach out to her foster at: Alexisccsdhsfostervolunteer@gmail.com
