Hey Neighbor!
Besides today being International Cabernet Sauvignon Day (my fave) and U.S. Bowling League Day (who knew?), it’s my niece’s 24th birthday, so I need to start the newsletter off with a happy birthday to Kylee, who is just starting law school at Columbia University in NYC. So incredibly proud of her.
Last week’s story on the history of Bay Ho and its street names was an absolute banger for y’allβyou loved it, and so did I. It’s always fun to learn historical gems about where we live. This week’s story is another one from the history books, and I hope you enjoy it.
Let’s dig into this week’s news.

This little red house at 1446 Coolidge Street in Linda Vista is where a woman named Margaret Hottell decided she’d had enough.
In 1952, the federal government told families in Linda Vista’s wartime housing that they’d earned too much money to stay, and they’d be evicted to make room for newly arriving workers who needed cheap housing more than they did. Margaret ran the neighborhood newspaper, the Linda Vista Reflector. She used the paper as her voice, and her words as her weapon, to take the fight all the way to Washington. And she won.
Then she bought the house.
