Hey Neighbor!
Normally, this newsletter goes out at 6 am on Thursdays. Like clockwork. Except for this week. That’s because I flew to Germany on Tuesday with my 86-year-old German mother, and I thought today was Wednesday. Jetlag is real, y’all. So I’m running late (I’m sure most of you didn’t even notice!). But for those who did, I apologize.
Let’s dig into this week’s news.

If you visit NextDoor or Reddit, you’ll find continuous buzz about coyote sightings across San Diego. Coyotes lived on the land before we did, and have proliferated across the nation, with only Hawaii remaining coyote-free.
Coyotes are highly intelligent, cunning animals, and whether you love them or hate them, they are here to stay. The more you try to eradicate them, the more their DNA will cause them to breed even more. Read some fascinating facts about coyotes in this week’s feature story.

San Diego’s Misunderstood Urban Coyote

Park Honors
Former Assemblywoman Lori Saldaña proposes naming Lindbergh Park after the victims of the Islamic Center of San Diego shooting last week. The park is in direct proximity to the mosque.
Un-brotherly Love
Charles Fluker, 29, allegedly stabbed his 19-year-old brother to death at Barons Market in Point Loma on Tuesday. Charles was arrested at his Linda Vista home on Ulric Street several hours later.
Reckless in Bay Park
A reckless driver caused a freeway crash near Bay Park Last week, sideswiping an SUV and causing her car and the SUV to crash on the side of the freeway. Firefighters said the way the vehicles landed was highly unusual. The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries, while the woman who caused the crash was transported to the hospital. See the aftermath video.
Serra Mesa Planning Group Meeting Update
Last week’s Serra Mesa Planning Group meeting covered two main agenda items. The SMPG approved a letter to be sent to a San Diego Unified School District board member regarding traffic safety concerns during pickup at Taft Middle School.
The other item was a letter to the San Diego State University president requesting that SDSU Mission Valley open stadium parking to the public for free trolley parking. This was the case before SDSU ownership. There is no bus service from Serra Mesa to the parking lot, which is why residents are making this request.
Special thanks to Serra Mesan Cindy McIntyre for providing this update!
