Hey Neighbor!
So I hit that send button last week, and immediately wished I had a recall button. I realized my intro paragraph (what you’re reading now) somehow got wiped out. One of my buttons also had an incorrect link. Ah, the joys of being a solopreneur with no one to check my work.
Hopefully I’m back on track this week, but no promises. This week’s feature story is by Kendal Wild, who shares the story behind Bay Ho’s beginnings. I’ve shared some history on Serra Mesa’s street names, and you should find Bay Ho’s just as interesting. (If you have something interesting you’d like to contribute, hit reply and send me an email about it).
Let’s dig into this week’s news.

I often hear guesses about how the Bay Ho neighborhood got its name. When I dug into the history, I couldn’t find a clear answer. Fortunately, this week’s feature article solves the mystery!
Kendal Wild, a Bay Ho resident and lifelong sailor, was around for the neighborhood naming and even has a Bay Ho street named after him, too. And if you’ve ever driven down Conner Court or Conner Way, you might not have known they were named after the world-famous America’s Cup champion sailor, Dennis Conner. Click below for the rest of the story and the strong sailing influence in Bay Ho.

How San Diegoβs Bay Ho Neighborhood (and Streets) Got Named
12-Year-Old Serra Mesa Restaurant Closing
Kokoro Japanese restaurant, located at 3298 Greyling Drive, will serve its last meal on August 30. The restaurant focused on authentic Japanese-style sushi, sourcing its ingredients locally and from Japan. Its owner and chef, Taisho Ishito, is retiring.
Linda Vista Planning Group Meeting Recap
The LVPG met on Monday to discuss topics such as Osler Street traffic calming, Linda Vista Library patio improvements, and the city’s pitch to use Skateworld and Linda Vista Library land for affordable housing projects. Read the full recap written by planning group member Jonas Bishmas.
Beyond the Neighborhood
The San Diego City Council met on Monday and Tuesday this week. Notables from the meetings include:
- 9-0 vote to repeal the 30-foot coastal height limit in the Midway district after litigation found the environmental review of the Midway Rising site inadequate. New state mandates (such as SB-79) are expected to allow buildings taller than 30 feet.
- Tuesday’s major discussion was regarding revenue from city-leased golf courses. Fairbanks Ranch Country Club pays disproportionately low rent (5%) compared with the other city courses (20-25%).

6093 Caminito Del Oeste perches on Tecolote Canyon in Linda Vista, giving you gorgeous panoramic views from the large deck. This 3BR, 3BA home spans 1,522 sq ft. European oak floors, a gourmet kitchen, quartzite fireplace, high ceilings, and spa-like bathrooms exude luxury. HOA amenities include a shared pool and clubhouse.

Meet Sanson
This beautiful brown fella is Sanson, a 10-month-old Doberman Pinscher mix. Just because he’s 58 pounds doesn’t mean he can’t be a lap dog (or at least think he can). Sanson is sensitive and lovable, and has an affinity for stuffed animals. He’s good with kids and is ready to meet you. Visit him at the San Diego Humane Society.
