Hey Neighbor!

Holy moly, it’s been hot enough to fry eggs on the sidewalk the last couple of days. Be safe and stay hydrated.

The house poll from two weeks ago stumped most of you, with less than half guessing the correct price, but y’all redeemed yourselves last week.

Speaking of polls, have you checked out a business you’ve read about or learned of from this newsletter?

Renate Neira missed the bread she grew up with in Germany, where most neighborhoods had a baker within walking distance from home. So, she started baking her own bread for her family, then for friends and neighbors.

Eventually, Renate’s hobby turned into a cottage-bakery business she calls Little Backstube, which means “Little Bakery” in German. Every Friday, from Little Backstube, you can pick up a variety of freshly baked homemade bread, ranging from classic sourdough to Renate’s popular cinnamon chips sourdough, as well as sweet treats like German streusel.

If you’re lucky, you’ll pick up on a day when Renate even gives away free leftover goodies. Read more about this Clairemont resident’s story below.

Rental Rates are Flat, But Still Not Affordable

An influx of apartment units has flattened the rental market, resulting in landlords competing for tenants and offering deals like the first month of rent free. But there’s a catch. In areas like Kearny Mesa, many new apartments are considered Class A high-end apartments and are not affordable to many. (This is a paywall article. You can bypass it by copying the URL here.)
