Hey Neighbor!
Did you notice last week’s newsletter came a day early? I screwed up on the scheduling calendar, and there’s no reset button, so you got some early news. Better than late, right? I just like to keep y’all on your toes.
In last week’s poll, 100% of respondents said they have a handyperson or contractor they’d recommend, but only a few of you gave me the names of your faves. I’ll put that list together to share soon, but if anyone still wants to send me their recommendations, just reply to this email.
By the way, more of you are starting to submit photos to the Local Scroll, and I love seeing them! If you see something interesting, beautiful, funny, weird, or whatever, around town, snap a pic and send it to the Local Scroll (link below). If you visit the website’s home page, you’ll see all the submitted images posted there.
Let’s dig into this week’s news.

The City of San Diego finally got back to me with their remarks about the closure of the Clairemont Pool, and it’s not the news that those of you who use it will want to hear. The closure is expected to extend into the spring of 2027.
This project has cost millions of dollars, left locals without a recreation outlet, and a high school without a dedicated place to practice and compete in their beloved aquatics sports.
The Clairemont Pool, which opened in 1979, was undoubtedly in need of repairs, but should this project take nearly three years to complete? Read the full story below.

Clairemont Pool To Remain Closed Until Spring 2027

Comings & Goings
🍱 Origami Handroll X Kushiyaki Bar announced back in 2024 that they’d open a Convoy Street location. Their projected 2025 opening date has long since passed, and they still aren’t open. However, they’ve updated their website to say they will open this summer (clock is ticking!). They are located at 4488 Convoy Street.
🚸 Bay Park Academy, an early childhood care and education center, launched in July. The academy, located at 5050 Milton Street in Bay Park, is enrolling infants through pre-schoolers.
🏋️♀️ House of Strength, a new strength training gym, had a soft opening on August 8. The gym, located at 4164 Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa, offers personal training and other strength training options. They’ll have a grand opening launch on August 29 where you can win: a free year of membership, a 4 day/3 night cruise, two tickets to Hornblower cruises, and more.
Clairemont Town Council Meeting Update
The CTC held its monthly meeting last Thursday, and it was jam-packed with information ranging from the Clairemont Pool closure to a presentation by the Office of the Independent Budget Analyst (surprise, the city is running out of money). Bay Ho resident Bob Turnier provided a full recap of the meeting you can read here.
Linda Vista Eviction Leads to Surrender of 9 Dogs to Overcrowded Shelter
The San Diego Humane Society recently took in nine dogs after their owner was evicted in Linda Vista last week. The San Diego location is severely overcrowded, so six of the dogs were sent to the El Cajon campus.
Linda Vista American Legion Post Desperately Needs Funds
To comply with codes and provide much-needed updates, American Legion Post 731 is reaching out to the community for help. Post 731 has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise 100k needed for repairs. The American Legion serves military veterans by providing a safe space and hosting events. The Linda Vista location, at 7245 Linda Vista Road, has been serving veterans since 1946. To donate, please visit the GoFundMe page.
Serra Mesa Fire Cleanup Continues

Cleanup crews are working to clean up the damage from the Guild Building fire in Serra Mesa several weeks ago. A resident was told there is an ongoing environmental assessment of the area, but as of yet, no one seems to know the future plans for this site.
Kearny Mesa Brushfire Contained
A fire near SR-163 and SR-52 burned about two acres last Friday before firefighters were able to contain it. It took them an hour to extinguish the fire, and there were no injuries.

This 5BR, 3BA Clairemont home is located at 3636 Shawnee Road. The main home is 2,394 sq ft, and there is an additional 762 sq ft ADU with 2BR and 1BA. Both feature stunning beach and bay views across the canyon. The home is on a quiet cul-de-sac and has a sprawling 2,300 sq ft backyard with a huge deck. The interior is modernly designed, with a spa-like primary bathroom and a bright, open-concept kitchen.
