High Density + Free Pets

Hey Neighbors!

Want a free pet who’s spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaxxed? I’m going to tell you how to get one this weekend.

And for a less fun topic, but one that will affect us all, I spent about 30 hours digging into local government websites and documents to see what is really behind the new master plan for Clairemont. Check it out.

Let me know your thoughts!

COMMUNITY NEWS

Clairemont Community Plan Deep Dive: More Density, Eased Height Restrictions

I gave a brief update on the Clairemont Community Plan, which was presented at the Clairemont Community Planning Group on August 4. This article is a deep dive into the proposed plan and how it will shape the next 30 years in Clairemont.

Clairemont was designed as a primarily single-family home neighborhood, but the city is looking to dramatically change that by rezoning much of Clairemont to include more multi-family dwellings (apartment buildings and condominiums). This is a positive for some residents, and a negative for others.

Whatever your stance, it’s vital to make your voice heard by giving feedback on the Clairemont Community Plan. You can submit comments via this official city form. The deadline is September 14 at midnight.

The condensed article summarizes the several hundred pages of the city’s plan and its supportive documents into a readable 10 minutes.

New Cell Tower Proposal

Verizon has submitted a request for a permit to build a 50-foot-high cell tower designed to look like an eucalyptus tree. The proposed location is at 4271 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. The tower will conceal 12 antennas, 12 Remote Radio Units, and additional equipment, including a backup generator that will be housed in a 432 square foot enclosure within an eight-foot-tall wall. A public hearing date to approve or deny this application has not yet been set, but if you have any questions or objections, you can contact the city’s project manager, Nila Safi, at 619.446.5236 or nsafi@sandiego.gov.

San Diego Humane Society Is Giving Away Free Pets

On August 23, from 10 am to 7 pm, the San Diego Humane Society is waiving adoption fees for an event it calls “Clear the Shelters Day.” If you can’t make it on Saturday, you can still get your new pet for 50 percent off through the remainder of August. Each pet is spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. More than 1,000 pets have been adopted so far this month. Now it’s your turn to adopt!

LOCAL SPOTLIGHT

Have you checked out Angry Pete’s Pizza in Kearny Mesa yet? Transformed from a ’90s Taco Bell to a deep-dish Detroit-style pizza joint, complete with retro Atari games, Angry Pete’s delivers a fun flashback. Oh, and unlike Taco Bell, Angry Pete’s serves beer. They just celebrated their seventh anniversary. Dine in or use the drive-thru for to-go orders. 5335 Overland Ave. in Kearny Mesa

Marshland is just waiting to leap into your life. He’s almost two years old, but is already a long-term resident at the San Diego Humane Society. He’s a sweet, shy guy who is excellent with other dogs. Pick him up this Saturday for free on Gaines Street!
