Fast Times Wide

Hey Neighbor!

The news about Clairemont’s Boys & Girls Club receiving a major donation from the San Diego Padres was a hot topic last week, and super exciting for our neighborhood youth. Since the city news doesn’t cover our community topics as we do, expect an in-depth story from our newest freelance writer, Taylor Ribar, on what’s in store for the club very soon.

Also, favor time. If you find value in this newsletter, it would mean the world to me if you shared it with a friend, neighbor, family member, PTA, or anyone else you think would enjoy it. Growing is hard, and you, my friend, are the best way for me to spread the word that this even exists.

I appreciate having you here.

Let’s dig into this week’s news.

Long-time local restaurant, Fast Times, located at 3065 Clairemont Drive, is listed for sale for $350,000. According to co-owner Shawn Lee, they are in final negotiations with a buyer yet to be named. The restaurant is known for its regular live music lineup, and it’s unknown whether this will continue with the new owner.

Serra Mesa Community Updates

The Serra Mesa Planning Group and Serra Mesa Community Council both met (separately) this month, and hot topics of discussion included housing projects in the area. The City of San Diego confirmed in a letter to the SMPG the status of the sites at 9280 and 9160 Gramercy Drive (formerly Mission Village Shopping Center and Guild Mortgage).

The former shopping center is under review to become a 199-unit complex with dwellings for sale, as well as eight merchant units. The complex proposes 398 parking spaces.

The former site of Guild Mortgage, which was recently destroyed by fire, is still being assessed for next steps, and no development project is currently underway.

Sandrock Apartments presented design plans and construction timeline updates to the community council.

Thank you to our neighbor Cindy Moore for the Serra Mesa updates.

Correction

Last week, I noted that Lavish Smoke Shop in Serra Mesa had presented to the Serra Mesa Planning Group as part of its requirements to get an off-site sale liquor license. This was in error. They submitted a request to be on the agenda, but it was not in time for the SMPG’s September meeting.
